Su di lui viene effettuata una ricostruzione bionica all'avanguardia, che sostituisce gli organi danneggiati con arti bionici. La serie prende il titolo dal costo dell'intervento, appunto di sei milioni di dollari. Grazie agli organi bionici, Steve Austin acquisisce delle capacità eccezionali: le gambe gli consentono di correre a velocità altissime, il braccio è dotato di una forza fuori dal comune, e l'occhio permette una visione ravvicinata di oggetti molto lontani.
